Soy as an Estrogen Alternative

As many as 85% of American women experience hot flashes.  The European women don’t fair much better with 70 to 80%.
  

But if we look at the Asian countries, it’s a different story.  Only 10% up to 18% of Japanese, Singapore and Chinese women complain of hot flash symptoms.

Why?  Most Scientists believe…

It’s the high levels of plant estrogen (isoflavones) consumed by the Asian population via soy products.  Soy is one of the most abundant sources of isoflavones in nature.

Amazing Study Results

Fifty-one women, ages 48 to 61, consumed 60 grams of soy daily for twelve weeks.  By week four, there was a 33% reduction in hot flashes.  By the end of week 12, they saw a 45% reduction.
 

 I, for one, plan to increase the soy in my diet.

Red Meat Isn’t Necessarily Good for our Hearts.

But this nation has become addicted to meat because it is a source a protein.  The protein found in meats is considered to be whole and complete protein.

Plants contain Partial Proteins.

In order to form complete proteins from plant life we need to eat fruits and vegetables in combinations.  But why should this be problematic?  Variety adds spice to life.

 Soybeans are Unique

They naturally contain complete proteins!
 

And Soy is good for your heart!  It reduces plaque build-up and strengthens blood vessels.  Soy is a source of nutrition without the negative effects found with red meats.  Marinade tofu in the right sauces, throw it on the grill for a bit, and you’ll have a feast with a familiar flavor that’s also good for you.

What is GMO?

It is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques.  This is basicly done by combining DNA molecules from different sources to create a new gene.  Then the DNA is put into the organism to change or modify it’s traits.

Purpose for Genetic Engineering

The enhancement of our lives is the goal of many, I’m sure.  Finding medicines, improving human health, building better and stronger plant life.
  

Such things as engineering plants for protection from frost damage and making them pest resistant are two applications of GMO.

The Downside to this technology

Plants that produce sterile seeds is a major one.  Another is the possible health ramifications of eating food that has pesticides in it’s genetic make up.  The controversy is large enough that we’re seeing bans on the production of GMO’s in different areas of the country.

Looking Inside the Machine

1.  Water is added to the chamber and soaked soybeans are placed into the milk screen, which is then attached to the motor head.
 

2.  The Soymilk Maker grinds the beans inside the milk screen and the rich soy protein is extracted.
 

3.  The water and soy protein are heated to the optimum temperature.
 

4.  Your delicious Soymilk is ready in about 15 minutes.

Soy Smoothie

Make your own Soy Smoothie

Spring is in the air.  Temperatures are rising.  It’s time to think about cool, great tasting, and power packed drinks.  Smoothies are a great way to start the day or get an afternoon pick-me-up.

  • 1 cup vanilla or plain soymilk
  • 1 medium banana
  • 1/4 cup fresh or frozen unsweetened strawberries
  • 5 ice cubes

Place all ingredients in a blender and process on medium speed for 1 minute or until smooth.

Variations

Try substituting vanilla soy yogurt for the soymilk.  And definately change the drink with different types of fruits!

136 calories, 27 grams carbohydrate, 4 grams protein, 2 grams fat, 0 grams saturated fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 47 mg sodium, 2 grams fiber
